The Appalachian Wedding Chapel & Boutique is a small wedding venue located at 2925 Northwestern Pike in Capon Bridge, WV. Founders, Brenda, and John Berry genuinely enjoy celebrating love in all its forms and would be delighted to host and officiate your special day.

Together, they have performed over 750 weddings for couples seeking both creative traditional and not-so-traditional ceremonies. Specializing in spiritual, secular, non-religious and light religious weddings, the Berry’s motto is Love Belongs To Everyone. As licensed and ordained celebrants, the two are unapologetically devoted to marriage equality. We believe that Love belongs to everyone and welcome our LGBTQ+ neighbors as friends and family.

Professional speakers with an impeccable ability to deliver and entertain, they have been part of the wedding industry since 2007, officiating weddings throughout Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. A quaint town vibe with fishing, kayaking, hiking, music and incredible vistas year-round, (and possibly the best cheeseburger you’ve ever had at the Farmers Daughter), Capon Bridge is a perfect destination for weddings.

Located at Basswood, Capon Bridge’s premier Airbnb, The Appalachian Wedding Chapel & Boutique can accommodate small, micro-weddings up to 50 people. With a little advance planning, and with 5 beautifully decorated suites to choose from, you and your guests can enjoy your stay and hold your ceremony on Basswood’s grounds on the banks of the Cacapon.

How do we get a wedding license?

To get married, you will need to obtain a marriage license from the state where you are getting married. If you are getting married in Hampshire County, it’s easy to obtain a license. Follow this link to the application and get started! For Virginia couples the closet courthouse to us is in Winchester, VA. Please note that the marriage license is only valid for 60 days, so we recommend not obtaining it too far in advance of your wedding day.

Can we really get married today?

Yes, absolutely! If you have your marriage license, simply bring it to our location and we will be thrilled to get you hitched and make your wedding day unforgettable!

What is your booking process?

Our booking process at Appalachian Wedding Chapel is designed to be hassle-free and straightforward. Here’s how it works:

Elope: Simply walk-in or call us in advance. Be sure to bring your marriage license and ID.

Secure Reservation: You’ll receive a contract with a secure payment link. To officially reserve your wedding date, you’ll place a deposit. The deposit amounts vary by package:

Flexible Payments: After paying the deposit, you can choose a monthly payment plan. The final payment is due one month before your wedding date. We’re highly flexible and can customize your payment plan to suit your needs. Whether you prefer adjusting payment dates or want to make larger payments when it’s convenient for you, we’re here to accommodate your preferences.

Can we have a non-religious service?

Yes indeed – we specialize in spiritual, secular and non-religious and light-religious ceremonies. We understand that your wedding day is incredibly special, and we are committed to making it truly personalized for every client. We offer the flexibility to customize your wedding ceremony according to your preferences and beliefs. This means that religious, spiritual but not religious, and secular ceremonies are all welcome. We are dedicated to ensuring your wedding reflects your unique love story and vision for your special day.

Do you provide flowers?

Our faux flower arrangements, bouquets and boutonnières are included with select packages, and provide a beautiful and hassle-free option for your wedding. However, if you prefer fresh floral arrangements, we can recommend a few trusted places to source them. Our team is here to receive and place them according to your preferences.

Can we bring our own decorations, music, or other personal items for the wedding?

Yes, absolutely! Your ceremony should reflect your unique style and preferences. We encourage you to add any personal touches to make your day fit your love story. Our team is dedicated to you, and we’re happy to accommodate any special requests. We’ll take care of setting up any decorations you provide, so you can focus on enjoying your special day exactly as you pictured.

Do we need rings?

Rings are not mandatory for your ceremony with us. We understand that every couple is unique, and we will tailor your ceremony to your preferences. However, if you are interested in finding rings, we may be able to help.

How many guests can we bring?

We have a wide variety of venues for your party size! All can accommodate up to 12 guests, bridal party included. Riverside can accommodate up to 50 guests, and the Fireplace Chapel can accommodate up to 20 guests. Choose the venue that best fits your guest list, and our team will work with you to create the perfect wedding experience.

Do you officiate services in other venues?

Yes, absolutely! We have performed ceremonies at a wide variety of venues, from local vineyards to 5 Star Resorts, back yards and living rooms in private homes to museums and historical manors and other sites, city parks to the Shenandoah National Forest. Celebrating love has no bounds!

Do you travel to weddings outside Hampshire County?

Yes! Our service area is Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland.

A Word About Cultural Appropriation

Cultural appropriation is defined as the “inappropriate or unacknowledged adoption of an element or elements of one culture or identity by members of another culture or identity”.

At The Appalachian Wedding Chapel & Boutique we encourage couples to choose ceremonies which speak to the intention behind the ceremony, and to their personalities, but not because a particular ceremony is “cool”. If drawn to a ritual or practice, we urge our couples to take time to fully understand the meaning behind the use of a ceremonial object like a wedding vase, especially when the practice or even the design of an object is associated with a particular culture.

If using objects or ceremonies outside of your particular cultural history, it is always important to acknowledge the origins of the practice as best you can. And for couples coming together in a cultural union, be creative! Your wedding ceremony can be a sacred and supportive expression of both.
